Mulling Spice Gift Set - Whole Cinnamon, Star Anise and Orange for Hot Cider and Wine

Mulled cider is the smell people associate with the holidays, and it comes from four ingredients rather than a bottle of syrup: cinnamon, star anise, cloves, and orange.
- Whole spices rather than powder, so the drink stays clear and the flavor builds slowly
- Dried orange slices add sweetness without making the drink cloudy
- Packed in a glass jar with a kraft label and twine, ready to hand over as a gift
- Works with apple cider, red wine, cranberry juice, or a pot of black tea
- Reusable jar once the spices are gone
For a quart of cider, use about a tablespoon of the blend, warm it gently for twenty minutes, and do not let it boil or the orange turns bitter. For mulled wine, add a spoonful plus a little honey to a bottle of dry red and keep it just below a simmer.
Strain before serving and float a fresh orange slice in each mug. The same blend can go into a saucepan on the stove as a stovetop potpourri if you would rather scent the room than drink it.
